These reflections are written by two colleagues and friends involved in Christian ministry to university students in Ukraine and Scotland. We want to bring songs of hope into a time of war. Maybe there’s a war in your country, and you’re fighting for your home; or maybe there’s a war in your head, and you’re fighting for your mental health. These songs and words are for you.

Ці роздуми написані двома колегами та друзями які залучені до християнського студентського служіння університетів України та Шотландії. Ми прагнемо нести послання надії у час війни. Можливо, у вашій країні йде війна, і ви боретесь за свій дім; або, можливо, ви переживаєте зараз війну з власними думками. Тоді ці псалми та слова підбадьорення для вас.

The Psalms of the Bible are among the most amazing poetry ever written. They give us words to articulate the entire spectrum of emotions that we experience in life: joy and anger, contentment and weariness, exhilaration and grief. But more than that, they introduce us to the character of the God that Christians believe in. He is not hidden, up in the clouds, detached from the human experience; but he cares deeply for those he has made. He cares so much for our experience that he was willing to come down and experience it with us and for us, in the person of Jesus Christ.

Біблійні псалми є одними з найдивовижніших поезій, коли-небудь написаних. Вони дають нам слова, щоб сформулювати весь спектр емоцій, які ми відчуваємо в житті: радість і гнів, задоволення і втома, радість і горе. Але більше того, вони знайомлять нас із характером Бога, в якого вірять християни. Він не заховався у хмарах, не віддалений від людського життя, але Він глибоко піклується про тих, кого створив. Він настільки турбується про нас, що хотів прийти і прожити життя разом з нами і для нас, в особі Ісуса Христа.

When you’re in the middle of a war, it can be hard to concentrate, and it can be hard to find words to pray. So these reflections are deliberately short, with a brief prayer at the end for you to use to speak to Jesus. He is there, and he is not silent; he has spoken to us, and loves us to bring our concerns to him, no matter how big or small.

Коли ви перебуваєте в епіцентрі війни, може бути важко зосередитися, і може бути важко знайти слова для молитви. Тому ці роздуми короткі, з невеликою молитвою в кінці, щоб ви могли поговорити з Ісусом. Jesus really is the only hope for the world. Atheism, humanism, politics, and other religions of course can and do contribute much good. But in the end they all fall short of offering true, full and lasting justice, peace, security and hope. If Jesus is really alive today, and is who he claimed to be, then only he can answer our deepest questions and fulfill our deepest longings; and he does, in the most beautiful way possible.
